Description
Every time Auntie Elsie comes to visit she gives Andy two big sloppy kisses. Kiss! Kiss! on the left cheek. Kiss! Kiss! on the right cheek. Yuck! Yuck! Andy says to himself.
Andy is a fast runner. But not fast enough to outrun Auntie Elsie. Andy is good at hiding, but Auntie Elsie always finds him. When Auntie Elsie breaks her leg and stops coming to visit, Andy begins to miss Aunt Elsie and her sloppy kisses. Then one day, a taxi pulls by the gate and out come two crutches. Now it’s Andy’s turn to get Aunt Elsie. Kiss! Kiss! Hug! Hug!
Kyle Mewburn’s story of an overly affectionate aunt will resonate with readers, who will instantly recognize the bond of love that unites the two characters. Ali Teo and John O’Reilly’s colorful and quirky illustrations, which combine freehand drawing and photographic collage, exaggerate the humor of the story.
Reviews
“Rhythmic text and repetition will make this useful as a read-aloud and good for beginning readers to tackle.” ―School Library Journal
“A hilarious story full of insights into family relations.” ―Wichita Eagle
“Endearing and fascinating…” ―Virginian-Pilot
“An absolutely adorable picturebook. Any child who has had to endure the kisses of those who love them can relate to Andy. The pencil, photo and fabric collage illustrations are playful and fun. I especially like the colorful collage of Auntie Elsie’s clothes and shoes, giving her a touch of eccentricity. This is a perfect read aloud for children ages 4-8. It will elicit both groans and laughter from boys in the room who hate mushy kisses. Adults will enjoy reading aloud this book over and over. Highly recommended.” ―Boys to Books
“Kids will definitely want to pore over these pictures and find all the details.” ―Abby the Librarian
