Description

This adorable read-aloud features appealing baby animals and a rhyming text that is sure to please.

From trumpeting like an elephant to howling like a wolf, author-illustrator John Butler delights the very young with this simple, interactive look at different animals and the noises they make.

Butler’s lavish double-page portraits feature wide-eyed animals in their natural surroundings. The simple text invites young children to mimic the animals’ sounds. When all the animals are quiet, readers are encouraged to imitate their animal friends one last time: “It’s time to gently close your eyes and fall fast asleep.”

“Although the text gently pushes its audience toward bedtime… there’s plenty here to keep a circle of preschoolers entertained in broad daylight.” ―Publishers Weekly

“With acrylics and colored pencils, [Butler] uses soft strokes of color and rounded forms to create large-scale pictures with immediate appeal…Children will enjoy making the suggested sounds and getting lost in the eye-catching scenes…this picture book is also a natural for sharing with groups of young children.” ―Booklist

“Making all the sounds that close the animals’ days can provide a predictable routine for bedtime as the paired rhyming questions wrap up by showing all the book’s animals quietly sleeping.” ―A Book and a Hug

“Satisfying toddler bedtime fare, filled with gentle rhymes, and with the chance to hear and repeat a different animal sound on every page. A good addition to any toddler board book gift pack.” ―Jen Robinson’s Book Page
